Cup Success23 Sep 2009

Premier reserves men – Bunbury United 3 (Rodgers, Skoda, Mort) – 0 Busselton

Another trophy was added to cabinet today with the reserves taking out the South west time’s Premier reserves cup final with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over a spirited Busselton team. In windy and wet conditions at Hay Park Bunbury kicked into the wind for the first half with Greg Murray called up to replace Walker in goals as he was cup tied to the league team. Ryan Risdon and Jarred Mort were also called upon to bolster the line up for a solid squad. Bunbury started the brighter with Thorne and Canzirri up front making nuisances of them selves forcing the Busselton team into long balls with Ely, Cooper and Bertone defending well at the back. In the 15th minute Murray came for a long ball but collided with a Busselton attacker and got corked in the process. With Murray forced from the field it was up to young Nat Risdon to put the gloves on who relished the opportunity in goals. Bunbury were more dominant with the wind with a corner from Thorne found Rogers in the six yard box with a first time finish to put the Reds in front. Mort, Risdon and Simmons were brought on at the expense of Canzirri, Leeder and Percy and were now controlling the game well in midfield through Comito and Skoda. Busselton now were attacking on the counter and Bunbury were nearly made to pay but for Risdon making a one on one save to force the ball over for a corner and from the resultant corner Risdon saved a point blank header with Ely bravely blocking the follow up. Cooper was putting strong tackles on his marker and was forcing the tricky striker into long range efforts that were dealt with comfortably by the defense. Close to half time with Risdon working his way up the field cut inside and fed the ball to Skoda at the top of the box with his shot deflecting and forcing the keeper the wrong way to put the Reds up 2-0. On the stroke of half time Thorne was found inside the box by Comito and had more time than he thought but scuffed his shot into a Busselton player.

Half time:2-0

With the Reds going against the wind it was now a test of holding the lead with Busselton looking dangerous on the counter attack. Risdon in goal was coming off his line to thwart any Busselton long balls. Cooper was keeping his marker quite to great effect with Cooper playing a man of the match performance. Bunbury United scored again within the first 15 minutes of the second off a corner when a ball was played to the back post by Thorne which found Mort who obliged by side footing past the Busselton keeper. As the game wore on United were in control as Busselton began to tire with Skoda and Leeder placed up front missing some glorious opportunities but in the end it was United who took out the cup final after the devastation of coming runners up in the league the week before.

Magnificient Seven15 Sep 2009

Premier League Men – Dynamos 0 – 7 (Spinelli 2, Risdon, Krawec, Mort, Millington, Roberts) Bunbury United

It was all or nothing for Bunbury United on Sunday against Dynamos and the Reds delivered with seven magnificent goals against an average Dynamos team that were in sixes and sevens. The previous weeks win against Dalyelup saw United weaken Dalyelup playing numbers for the cup final next week but Dalyelup opponents Dynamos were severely weakened in moral against a fired up and bravely determined Bunbury team.

The action was kept tight for the first fifteen minutes with Bunbury dominating possession and Roberts going close early on. Stevens and Risdon were dominant in the midfield winning the second balls. The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when Krawec tried his luck from outside the box with a curling left foot shot that rolled past Ryan Montgomery. Minutes later Millington fed Roberts who squared to Risdon who beat his marker and put a left foot shot past the keeper to put the Reds up 2-0. All was well for Bunbury and it got even better when in the 37th minute Millington found him self in the box and slipped another goal past the beleaguered Dynamos defense and duly silenced the Dynamos supporters as if they had had their tongues cut off. Dynamos tried t fight back could find nothing against the resolute defense of Rogers, Thompson and Cosenza. Before half time Roberts put the score to an embarrassing 4-0 with a blinding volley that nestled into the top of the net.

It was looking good at half time at 4-0 with Dynamos looking like a spent force and United seemingly had all the momentum. Dynamos came out hard early with Reds seemingly in cruise control and after a few warnings where some Dynamos shots came close the Reds woke up and dominated once again through the middle in Risdon and Stevens with Spinelli his usual mobile self supporting the wings in Millington and Mort who was putting in some good crosses into the box but came to no avail. United got their fifth when the Reds worked the ball into the box and Spinelli got a shot into the bottom corner. Dynamos were down and out and Spinelli scored his second soon later with his left foot that went in off the far post to put the game at 6-0 with joyous United supporters cheering on. Stevens was shifted into defense and was limiting Dynamos to very little up front with Thompson marking danger man Mike Mckenna with the big man getting very little opportunities up front. Mort was put up front with Rogers being substituted for Bryce Young in the middle. The reds were playing some good possession football down the wings with good passages of play between Krawec, Millington and Risdon. The Reds were dangerous on every attack with Krawec putting some good low crosses where Mort was unable to finish off. In the 81st minute Spinelli went in search of his hatrick but his shot was saved by Montgomery but Mort was quickest to follow up netted to make it 7-0.

Dynamos were searching for the consolation goal now but good defending by Stevens and Thompson kept Dynamos score less. Walker was tested for the first time in the 90th minute when Mckenna shot on the volley but Walker dived to preserve the clean sheet.
